Binu Thomas

Binu Thomas grew up in the State of Kerala (India) and graduated from the university of West Bengal with a degree of Master of Art.
Binu paints systems that use lines, selected colors and dimensions to aim at conveying thoughts in a concentrated and purified way.
Hence he takes possession of the freedom within a discipline. He says « discipline means for me a structure, which protects and provides a freedom, and not as it is usually taken as limitation. Freedom is for me the creation of new forms, which I call “identities”, their placement, their interactions and their mutual relationships in its entirety.”

While making lines, the artist has to take up highest challenge and keep stability of mind. It demands also control over the breath while painting. It is a practice of meditation as well as patience and calmness.

In some of his paintings he uses curved lines to break restrictions and defined
structures. The lines are completely independent from geometry and free flowing like thoughts, which can move freely without any borders and defined shapes but followed consciously. The composition resembles a thoughtful game like chess, where basically everything can be positioned within a defined area as long as it is supported or balanced by something else. There are also “breathing-spaces” kept empty as an option for the mind to relax and to move freely from the present structural position of a form (identity) to a next. “We have the freedom to move in the space around us only because of a distance in between us and something. And this distance keeps our forms with their own identity and safety. The mind and its movement through the moments, its flow, its formations, its shadows and variations itself is again and again the subject, which I like to paint in different ways”
